Chorus and Keilani have been learning how to add two numbers together using a number-line and different colours to represent the two numbers being added. Here are some photos of the two girls during maths time solving their number stories using their strategy:

Celebrating our Achievements
In Room 2 we have been learning about how to create effective sentences. Here is a clip of some of us sharing our learning and our sentences at assembly on Friday. Mrs C is very proud of her class and how well they have been learning in writing.
Thanks to Mr Featherston for recording our item so we could share it with you all.

Doubles Dilemma!
Mrs C has been teaching the Stage 4 maths group how to use their doubles to solve a problem where there is a near double ( 7+8= ? ).
She also set the class the challenge that if we wanted to move on to learn a new tricky strategy then we needed to be able to prove that we could use the strategy on our own with absolutely no support.
Here are our videos to prove to Mrs C (and to you) that we can do it:

Precious and Parepaora - Partners in participating.
Precious and Parepaora worked together on their inquiry. Here is what this productive duo found out about space...
Blessing's Inquiry - Inquisitive about Space!
Here is Blessing's inquiry. He had to brainstorm a list of things that he wondered about space. He then chose the one burning question that he felt he REALLY wanted to know the answer to. Here is what he chose to find out:
Javier's Space Inquiry
Javier had a fascinating question about space, here is what he found out through the inquiry process:
Harley's Inquiry
First we had to find out what our question was. We used our brain to think of all the questions we had come up with. Then we chose what we wanted to find out. We highlighted our question. Then we had to use the Chromebooks to research about our question. My question was what is the moon made of? Here is what I found out:
Stage 4 Strategizing!
We have been working really hard on actually proving how we have used a strategy. An answer by itself is simply no longer enough to prove that we can use our new learning on our own. Have a look at how Journey and his group uses the doubling strategy to solve their near doubles problems:

Principals Awards!
Friday was a pretty special day in Room 2, Harley, Louis and Mrs C's daughter Chloe were all awarded Principal's awards. They were all pretty proud of themselves, just as we were all proud of them.
Here are some photos of the special occasion:

Determination with near Doubles in Room 2
Our stage 4 groups have been learning how to use doubles (2+2, 4+4) to solve a problem involving near doubles (6+7, 8+9). Here are some photos of these mathematicians working so hard to use this strategy, can you see what they have done to work it out?
Did you spot their method? If not, you will have to ask one of these experts how you solve a number problem involving near doubles.

Logan Loving Maths
Logan has been learning how to solve problems in maths using facts that he already knows. Here is a video of Logan using this strategy to solve a maths problem where he can see a near double. Watch what he does...

Soaring into Stage 4
Today Mrs C tested Iose, Louis, Mafi, Harley and Niah...they have become so clever at using the strategies that Mrs C has taught them that they have moved up a whole stage level.
These whizz kids are proficient at using counting on and back to solve number stories. Mrs C was so happy with their testing that she wanted to burst out into cartwheels across the classroom.
Check out these clever cats!

Wickedly Wonderful Writing!
In writing this week we have been learning about
- Metaphors
- Alliteration
- Similes
- Personification
We used this video clip as our motivation for writing:
Mrs C chose a particular part of the clip and brainstormed examples of each language feature around it:
Can you see all of our great examples?
Today Mrs C set us a task on the Chromebooks (yes we have Chromebooks now and we love them), we could work with a buddy and we had to come up with our own examples of each language feature for a different part of the film
Here are photos of us hard at work today in literacy...
